The Placer County Sheriff’s Department unveiled its “Offender Watch earlier this month. Detective Mike Bennett says it can be a valuable Halloween safety tool.
"Obviously you’re going to look for triggers in important times of the year when sex offenders might be more active and so we’re encouraging people to check out the addresses that they’re going to be taking their kids to go trick or treating and obviously go in groups and with supervision."
Users can enter an address and see any sex offenders living within a one-mile radius of that location. The program also alerts residents when a registered sex offender moves into their neighborhoods.
