District spokeswoman Maria Lopez says they want parent input on how to boost the school's security.

"We have been reviewing entrances and exits to the school making sure that they’re covered at all times, providing additional training to our hall monitors and making sure that students feel comfortable going to adults if they learn of information that might pose a risk to the campus." 

Last Thursday, in two unrelated incidents, a student in a classroom shot himself in the hand and another fired a gun outside a nearby restaurant. Both have been arrested and are facing felony charges.
