The upgrade to the system last June resulted in communication disruptions, including radio drop-outs. And it led to a very distressed fire chief…who told the county his firefighters couldn’t even communicate with each other on the scene of a one alarm fire.
County spokesman Patrick Groff admitted the radio system had problems. And he says, it still does, despite all the work that has been done to improve it:
We are making incremental progress. I’m not gonna sit here and say that the system is working perfectly.
Even so, the Sacramento Metro Fire Chief says he is much happier with the system’s performance than he was a month ago…and he is confident all the problems will be worked out soon.
