Tim Hodson says debates are hardly ever won the night of the event.  The Executive Director of the Center for California Studies at Sacramento State says despite the one-liners and some tough tax talk, was no real “knockout” line by either Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger or Democratic candidate Phil Angelides. Hodson says it’s the little details that will be dissected:

“It’s the newspaper articles that are written in the next week, it’s the radio commentary, it’s the conventional wisdom that will emerge over the next week or ten days that will determine who won, precisely because the actual live audience was so small.”

The candidates and their spin teams will try to capitalize on that. Angelides started a two-day bus tour Sunday, and the Governor continues to hold nearly daily campaign events.
