Eureka Assemblywoman Patty Berg says she’s ditched traditional campaign methods in her re-election bid:
“You won’t receive any glossy mailers, you won’t see any yard signs, you won’t see any billboards on my campaign this year”
The Democrat says to help reduce waste, her campaign outreach will be through e-mail, and appearances. Though she calls herself technologically illiterate, Berg says it’s critical to increase voter involvement online….but she admits it wouldn’t work for everyone:
“I have the luxury of being able to do this experiment because I have a good shot of winning, so this kind of campaign still has a long way to go before you could use it in a close race.”
Berg is running for a third term against Republican Ray Tyrone and Libertarian Thomas Reed. Reed says he questions whether such voter outreach via e-mail could amount to spam.
