State Attorney General Bill Lockyer announced felony criminal charges against former Hewlett Packard Chairwoman Patricia Dunn and four other defendants.

They’re accused of obtaining phone records of board members and reporters under false pretenses, in order to track down the source of boardroom leaks to the media.   Lockyer called the alleged actions a “misguided effort”.

“On behalf of Californians who cherish privacy so much that they’ve enshrined it in our state constitution, those who cross the legal line must be held accountable.”

The State Attorney General’s office says it was contacted by phone company officials in August with their concerns.  It’s expected that Patricia Dunn will surrender to authorities within the next few days.
