The parent organization for the Mercy hospitals broke ground last week on a new emergency pavilion with 25 beds at its Folsom hospital. But that’s just the beginning. Plans show that nearly a quarter billion dollars may be spent on that facility over the next 15 years, expanding to more than 300 beds. That includes both a medical surgery unit and a tower for inpatients. The project would rival Kaiser Permanente’s plan for a larger, 430-bed hospital at the Broadstone Shopping Center near Highway 50. Folsom’s Mercy hospital will likely be serving a population area 50% larger by the time its expansion ends.
