The Sacramento NAACP was started 90 years ago, to lend support to Southern branches which were trying to stop the lynching of blacks. That’s according to President Betty Williams, who says, these days, the Sacramento NAACP is involved in things like holding voter registration rallies:
We have also come together with the religious leaders in our community, so that we can get the word out about the various initiatives on the ballot.
The branch also sponsors legal clinics every 3rd Saturday of the month, which are free to anyone regardless of income or race. Its next project is to put out a report card on area businesses, to see how they are employing and serving minorities.
