High almond prices this year are drawing unwanted attention. The California Farm Bureau says thousands of pounds of almonds, worth millions of dollars, have disappeared. Thieves have been cutting fences and stealing nuts from farm orchards. They’ve even hot-wired tractor trailers filled with the nuts. The Bureau says they’ve pilfered about one and half million dollars of almonds meant to go overseas. Some growers are hiring nighttime security. Last year’s almond harvest in Yolo County alone brought growers about $31 million dollars.
