Sutter will be the first major health system in California to open retail clinics. It’s a pilot program that Sutter wants to study in action, before expanding it to other areas. Sutter is partnering with Right Aid. The clinics will open before year end within Rite Aid stores in Natomas, south Sacramento, and Elk Grove. Also in Rancho Cordova, Folsom and Roseville. Retail healthcare is a hot area for expansion, expected to grow sharply in 2007 as other health systems jump in. At the moment there are less than 100 such clinics nationwide. Clinic patients might be candidates for other services from the health system … and the drugstore gets added foot traffic.
