A recent survey by the Public Policy Institute of California shows younger residents are not voting—those under the age of 35 represent only 18-percent of likely voters.   California’s Secretary of State Bruce McPhersonspoke to students at a Constitution Day event to encourage their participation.… He hopes young voters will draw others to the polls.

“In some respects I think if we get them to vote we’re going to get their parents to vote who for all practical purposes in many occasions aren’t voters either.”

McPherson and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell are working together on the student voting project that includes the mock election. So far around 300 schools statewide have signed up to take part.
