Light winds and warm temperatures are creating poor conditions. And Jamie Arno with the Sacramento Air Quality Management District says there’s another problem – smoke from wildfires burning in Placer County.

"We are experiencing a lot of smoke in the region from the Ralston Fire which is burning north of Sacramento so basically if you see smoke at ground level or can smell it it’s a good idea to refrain from outdoor activity."

Wednesday’s air quality index is forecast to be 140 – that’s in the “unhealthy for sensitive groups” category. The air is expected to get better by the end of the week when temperatures cool down.
