County officials are telling residents to put their garbage at the curb on the appointed day, but it may not be picked up until the strike is over.
Meanwhile, both strikers and the county are hoping the walk-out will be a short one.
Clerical worker Gloria Adams says there is no strike fund to support workers while they’re off the job:
I don’t think any of us can afford to stay out any long than we need to, but we will for the county to see that they must give us what we need and that’s fair.
Chief county negotiator Steve Lakich would like to see the strike end now:
We would like to settle this labor dispute at the bargaining table and not in a strike.
The main issues in the dispute are wages and health care benefits.
