Intel officials aren’t giving any details about the layoffs.
"We don’t know how it’s going to affect the Folsom site."
Terri Munger is a company spokeswoman in Folsom. She says most of the job cuts this year will come from the marketing and information technology ranks.
"We do have a large population of both of those on our site. Those individuals will be notified over the next month that there jobs will be going away."
Intel is Folsom’s largest employer with about 7,000 workers. Joe Luchi, the city’s economic development director, says the layoffs are bad news.
"We’re hopeful that the impacts will be minimal and that those folks that are impacted may be able to find positions locally or maybe within Intel itself."
The layoffs are expected to save Intel $3 billion a year by 2008.
