Students are returning for the first day of the fall semester Tuesday and that traditionally creates slowdowns on Highway 50, Howe Avenue and other nearby roads. Also, the campus has fewer parking spaces because of ongoing construction projects.
Sac State’s President – Alexander Gonzalez – is urging students and faculty to take mass transit.
"To put it mildly there will be more than the usual difficulties with parking when students return. So if you’re able at all, please consider leaving your car at home and you can find a variety of commute choices on the university’s web site."
The campus has lost more than 1,100 parking spaces because of construction of a new parking garage and bookstore. The new parking structure is expected to open in January.
