Assembly Republican Leader George Plescia says the goal is for lawmakers to return next year with a package of bills on the subject of illegal immigration… He says members of a task force will hold town hall meetings around the state to help formulate their policy.
“And it’s about going around and talking to the communities and really to come back next year with some policy ideas that we can try and effect here in the legislature.”
Democratic Assemblyman Leland Yee – himself an immigrant – says a one-party task force is not the right tactic:
“Because the Republican party has been so vociferous about demonizing undocumented individuals, the more rational voice within the Republican party will not come through.”
Yee says a bi-partisan task force would be a better approach.
