Elizabeth Graswich with the school district says the searches are designed to keep students from using drugs or bringing drugs to school.

"It’s a proactive program to raise awareness about bringing drugs on campus. Law enforcement canines and their handlers will be making random visits to our high school campuses."

She says the dogs will be used to look for drugs in lockers, vehicles and common areas, but won't be used to search students.
