Sacramento State officials broke ground on a new sports complex that will include a field house, recreation center and an arena that would host both sports and entertainment events.
But Sac State President Alexander Gonzalez says their facility won’t conflict with the proposed downtown arena.
"The arena that they’re talking about downtown is going to be for larger events, for the Kings, those kinds of things. I think as a campus, with the number of alums and the number of activities that we have here we could probably support another arena, especially for a region this size."
He says the Sac State arena would seat 7,500 people and be a more intimate venue than the proposed downtown arena.
The privately funded sports complex will be named after Stockton developer Alex G. Spanos who is donating $10 million to the facility.
