City officials want to turn a 43-acre strip of land along the Sacramento River into a neighborhood with a waterfront promenade.
Laura Sainz with the city’s Economic Development Department says it’s a major part of the downtown redevelopment effort.
"The area right now is actually mostly vacant and looks a little rough. What we are envisioning is a grand promenade that reconnects downtown with the Sacramento riverfront and then a variety of housing product."
Council members are expected to adopt a resolution authorizing the city manager to move forward on the project. Construction could start by mid 2007.
