Sixty-seven year old Dale Stopp, a double amputee, opened his first gym in April in Fair Oaks. Called 1 -2 -3 Fit, it falls in a category known as an express gym – a place to go for a quick, no-frills workout, often in a shopping center. The former corrections counselor bought the franchise rights for the Sacramento area … and new locations are in Folsom and in Sacramento.

At least four other companies operate express gyms in the region, including Curves. 1 – 2 – 3 Fit is co-ed, not a single-sex environment. The target demographic is 35 to 65, although Stopp’s own gym has a membership concentrated in their 50s.
