It was First Lady Maria Shriver’s idea to highlight trailblazing Californians.  13 inductees have been chosen – 11 individuals and 2 families.  Among those honored:  Former President Ronald Reagan, Walt Disney, Amelia Earhart, tennis great Billie Jean King, and naturalist John Muir, to name a few.  Also on the list:  the Hearst and Packard Families.  Shriver says the hall-of-famers will serve as examples for future generations.

“That’s really my hope is that young people will come in here, they’ll see the hall of fame, they’ll find out about the stories of these men and women and they’ll be inspired to walk out of those doors and make their own mark on history.”

The official induction will be in December – that’s when the permanent exhibit will open up in the California Museum for History, Women and the Arts in Sacramento as well.  New inductees will be added each year.
