Developer Mark Friedman and his father, attorney Mort Friedman, have purchased the old cannery on Alhambra Boulevard from a partnership. For the time being, it will remain an office building. But the Friedmans say they may eventually use part of the structure for housing. That’s yet another sign that the wave of new housing construction in downtown Sacramento is spreading outwards. Two other big housing projects are planned for that corridor. The brick cannery was built in the 1800s. In the 80s it was converted to office space, and it also houses the Alhambra Athletic Club.
