Business Journal: New Electric Meters Coming
PG&E customers will be introduced to new high-tech meters later this year.

Pacific Gas & Electric has obtained approval to install Smart Meters, as they’re known, at both commercial and residential sites. The in-person meter reader will become a thing of the past. Smart Meters can be read remotely … and PG&E could easily vary pricing depending on when the customer is using the electricity, compared to hours of critical peak demand. PG&E expects that almost 90 of the installation costs will be offset by operational savings. Installation of Smart Meters will begin late this year, and won’t be complete until 2011.
