HP’s Roseville facility was the first large technology company to stake out a presence in the Sacramento area, buying its Roseville land in the 1970s. It swelled to 6,000 employees … but after a merger with Compaq, the company sold some of its land and structures … and now has just 4,000 workers.

It’s unclear what effect the changes might have on the Roseville campus. The company says it will reduce several hundred HP-owned locations to fewer core sites In May, CEO Mark Hurd announced a similar move, the combination of 85 data centers into six large ones. The company says the sites to be closed have not yet been chosen.
