CA Dept. of Water Resources
After months of negotiating with contractors, the state Department of Water Resources is preparing to begin emergency repairs to 29 critical river levee sites.
Oscar Hildalgo, with the Department of Water Resources, says most of the repairs will be done by water, with barges that will carry rocks and soil:
There will be a lot of barge activity. We ask boaters to be very safe around the barges, not to create a wake for them, and to stay clear of them as much as possible.
The sites in Sacramento and five other counties were damaged by wind, rain and waves during this winter’s storms.
The repairs are expected to begin within the next two weeks in the Woodland area on Cache Creek. They’ll begin on the Sacramento River in July. The total cost of the repairs is estimated at 150 million dollars.
