The turbines are located in the rolling hills of Solano County where SMUD’s Jim Shetler says it gets pretty breezy.
"Very windy area. What’s good about this is the wind profile is fairly good for us in the summer months and allows us to take advantage of this generation during some of our summer peak periods."
The turbines produce some of SMUD’s lowest cost renewable energy at under 5-cents per kilowatt-hour. And at 415 feet tall, they’re among the tallest wind turbines operating in North America.
