Davis City Council members have decided to put the issue on the election ballot. Supporters say a Target will give residents more choices but Mayor Pro Tem Sue Greenwald says it’ll hurt small, independent stores.
"There’s no way on earth that this Target isn’t going to harm some of our neighborhood shopping centers, put out of business a couple of our local pharmacies, a couple of our grocery stores and hurt our downtown. It’s what’s happened everywhere."
The Target question will go before Davis voters in November. If approved, it would be the biggest store in town. It would be located on 2nd Street near Mace.
