After hearing 5 hours of public comment that stretched through the wee hours of the morning at last week’s meeting, City Councilwoman Sue Greenwald was frustrated.

"It’s 10 of 2 in the morning now and this is my first chance to ask a question about the Target project in Davis."

The proposed Target would be on 2nd Street close to Mace Boulevard. It would be the biggest store in Davis. Opponents say it would hurt smaller, independent retailers, create too much traffic and as Mace Ranch resident Yvette Cary says – it just wouldn’t be a good fit.

"If you approve this project you’re going to forever change the unique and special character of our town. So please vote no."

But other residents, like Craig Mulhar from East Davis, say they’re tired of having to go to Woodland or Sacramento to shop.

"I would prefer to shop closer to home and see tax dollars be used to support the city of Davis services. Please bring some much needed retail to Davis."

More public comment will be accepted at Tuesday night’s meeting. The issue could potentially be put on the election ballot.
