At a polling place in the Pocket-Greenhaven neighborhood, voter Michelle Arnoux says it was important for her to vote:
I want my voice to be heard.
Fellow voter Ynhi Enzler became a U.S. citizen after moving here from Vietnam:
I believe in democracy in this country, so I try to do my part.
Alberto Deberrena, who also became a U.S. citizen, after moving here from Spain, feels the same way about voting:
It is very important. That’s how democracies get to stay democracies.
Perhaps many Sacramento County residents did not have such strong feelings. The county registrar was only predicting a 40 to 45 percent turnout.
