The PG&E backed initiative was sparked by SMUD’s proposed annexation into Yolo County, currently PG&E territory. Yes on H spokesman Jeff Raimundo says the passage of the measure should worry SMUD.
"I think this is a real strong signal that the SMUD annexation of Yolo County is in trouble."
But SMUD Board President Genevieve Shiroma put a positive spin on Measure H’s passage, saying it’s an affirmation of their decision to put the issue on the November ballot.
"We on the SMUD board absolutely embrace the opportunity to have our customers vote and that’s why we already put our measure on the November ballot."
While Measure H establishes an advisory vote, the initiative on the November ballot will let voters actually approve or reject the Yolo expansion plan.
