The store name is Stupid Prices … which hopes an expansion into Sacramento will be a smart move. Founded in 2002, Stupid Prices has 14 stores in Washington, and only one in California. That store, in Vacaville, is selling 40% more than any of the established stores in Washington State, says Bruce Martin, one of the owners.

Stupid Prices just opened in Elk Grove … with new stores coming in Roseville, Citrus Heights and in the Arden-Arcade area. It occupies former warehouses or grocery stores. Inventory varies wildly … from bedroom sets to dented cans of corn. Big Lots is a striving closeout retailer of this sort. Another, Cargo Largo, found only failure after two years in North Highlands.
