The study by Greenbelt Alliance was released Thursday. Spokeswoman Nicole Arnold says they found that thousands of acres around Dixon and Vacaville could be swallowed up by development.
"There’s a lot of development pressure on the I-80 corridor. One out of every five acres of land in Solano County are at risk."
She says the land at risk is around the outskirts of Dixon and Vacaville, where farms and wildlife habitat are being replaced by subdivisions and strip malls.
Developers criticized the findings, saying that more land is needed to meet demand for a growing population. They argue that growth restrictions already in place are limiting supply and driving housing prices beyond what many buyers can pay.
