The Sacramento Port Commission will soon choose a terminal operator from among five applicants. The new operator will begin handling cargo by July 1st, says the port manager.
The Port of Oakland will help to manage Sacramento’s port, which is in West Sacramento. The two ports have forged a unique alliance that could bolster business and profits for both. Parts for wind turbines, and bagged cement, are some of the products that offer opportunities. Cargo at the Port of Sacramento is now half what it was at its peak … and revenues are off a third from their high in the mid-1990s.
