With two weeks to go before the primary, the leading Democratic candidates for Governor  - Treasurer Phil Angelides and Controller Steve Westly – are both airing T.V. ads accusing the other of everything from pandering to big corporations to questioning oil company contributions.  Angelides told the Sacramento Press Club the negative ads are making him stronger:

“I believe the attacks that Steve Westly is rolling out today are the same that Arnold Schwarzenegger his Republican henchmen,  Rove and Steve Schmidt and the whole team will level against me in the fall.”

Nick Valasquez with the Westly campaign says he’s certain it’ll be the Controller up against Schwarzenegger in the fall, but agrees with Angelides that the heated, negative campaign is a good training ground.
