Lynnan Svensson with the Sacramento County Health Department says research indicates that there’s an immunization rate disparity in African Americans when compared to the rest of the population.
"Only 57.7% of African American children in California are immunized in comparison to 76.3% for all ethnicities and this means that there’s thousands of African American children in the state that aren’t immunized and are at risk."
On Saturday, Sacramento County is providing free immunizations for children and tetanus vaccinations for adults at the New Testament Baptist Church in North Highlands. Health officials say they hope to immunize between 300 and 500 people.
