Governor Schwarzenegger has signed an executive order creating a Crime Victim Advocate. His or her duties will include coordinating and streamlining state victim service programs. The Governor says the new hire will also be his lead advocate on state and federal policy affecting crime victims:
“I want to make sure that I have someone on my staff who can report to me directly on all the various important issues, concerns and needs of the crime victims and their families.”
As the Governor made his announcement inside, outside the Capitol hundreds who had been touched by violent crime gathered to support each other. Susana Aguilera – Marrero’s with Crime Victims United praised the Governor’s move:
“I think that would definitely afford the opportunity of victims to have input for the Governor to actually have first-hand information.”
The Crime Victim Advocate will be an appointed position.
