Old Sacramento, where the 49ers first arrived in Gold Rush days, is the most popular visitor destination in the region. The historic district draws 5 million people annually. Using a new marketing strategy, their business association wants to attract more restaurants and retailers – different ones than people can find at Downtown Plaza. The goal is to lure more local people. Their new executive director, Vicky Baxter, who has related experience in Napa County, will lead this effort. They hope to influence landlords, often absentee, who will rent their space to tenants that don’t contribute to that vision.
