The goal is to improve the city’s tree canopy.
Connie Gallippi of the Sacramento Tree Foundation says the survey will also help Elk Grove officials measure the financial benefits of trees.
"They’re helping clean our air, reduce our storm water runoff, they increase our real estate values and they also increase business and all those things add up to quite a bit of dollars and sense."
She says they still need volunteers to help with the tree survey.
Training sessions begin Tuesday and volunteers will be out in the field starting April 29th.
