March went out like a lion this year, breaking precipitation records around Northern California. Forecasters say a new series of storms is waiting in the wings for April.
It was a spring weekend like no other for Sierra ski resorts where a record amount of snow fell in March. Forecasters say more snow is on the way. Rachael Woods with Alpine Meadows Ski Resort says it’s great news at a time when the season would be starting to wane.
It’s kind of ironic that it’s spring, but we have midwinter conditions. Alpine Meadows has received more than 200 inches of snow since the beginning of March, so we’re looking really good as far as a long spring goes for people who want to ski and snowboard.
The Sierra could get an additional two feet of snow this week. Meanwhile, more rain is on tap for the valley. But that won’t be the end of it; forecasters say we have to wait for a stubborn jet stream to start moving into its more southerly flowing springtime position. They expect that will happen around mid-April
