Knights Landing is home to about 1,000 people, at a bend in the Sacramento River in Yolo County. 

Two builders are about to start construction on the first subdivisions seen there in decades. These will add fewer than 100 homes. But the Castle Companies of San Ramon will be proposing another project for 600 new homes…more than enough to double the population. On top of that, River West Investments has acquired 800 acres, with an eye on commercial and residential development, if local residents and county officials will go along with it. Most of that land is now agricultural, in a county that wants to see farming preserved.
