Plans for a $150 million expansion of the Galleria Mall were first announced two years ago, to include a 16-screen theater complex. But the revised plan now before city officials strikes the movies, because they’d be too expensive and the site’s too constrained.

Plans to enlarge Sears were also scrapped. However, both J.C. Penney and Macy’s will expand their stores. If the city okays this current plan, the Galleria can add about 100 new small stores and perhaps an upscale supermarket.
