Southwest Airlines uses more than 20,000 room nights a year in Sacramento to house its flight crews. But the Doubletree Hotel in Point West didn’t renew their contract with the airline … so their people now are going to Hawthorne Suites. And the Mexicana Airlines crews that had been staying at the Sheraton Grand, another large hotel … same story, so Mexicana’s gone elsewhere.
Hoteliers say they like the steady airline business when occupancy is lagging. But Sacramento’s leading full-service hotels are doing well. These days they would rather have the higher-paying corporate clients, who might also use their conference rooms and other offerings.
