The UC Davis Cancer Center is holding its annual Saint Baldrick’s Day shearing party Saturday. So far, nearly 100 people have signed up to take the bald plunge to raise money for childhood cancer research.

Event organizer Robin Raphael says the event helps boost the morale of young cancer patients who’ve lost their hair.

"There’s nothing more fun or more powerful than a cancer patient who gets to put the shears in their hand and shear their doctor or their mom or their dad. The smiles on these little cancer patients faces, that’s worth everything."

Cancer Center director Ralph deVere White will be one of the many shavees. The event will be at the Cancer Center Saturday from noon to 3 PM. The goal is to raise $100,000.
