Shashank and Purbayan Chatterjee perform Sunday, March 12th at 6 p.m. in Capistrano Hall on the Sacramento State campus.

The artist known as Shashank plays the flute.

Purbayan represents the Hindustani musical tradition of northern India, while Shashank is steeped in the older, Carnatic tradition of the south. Gautam Ganhdi, who helps select Indian musicians for Sac State’s world music series, is pleased to get them together.

Both artists have won multiple honors in India, and good reviews for their collaborative concert last year in London.  And they are young – Purbayan turns 30 this year, Shashank is 28. Their concert here will be in the comparatively intimate 300-seat Music Rectial Hall at Sacramento State.
