Schwarzenegger Proposes Boosting Bond

Rather than wait for federal help that might never come, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is proposing to increase the amount of bond funding to fix levees—from 2.5 billion to six billion dollars.  The democratic head of the state Senate Don Perata thinks the Governor was snubbed by D-C officials but says his proposal will be heard. 

“They will have the chance to come in and defend it, which I’m actually excited to hear, because I can’t figure out, when you go to Washington, you get no satisfaction, you come back and you put in half of which is from the feds, I mean what are we doing here?”

In a letter to lawmakers Schwarzenegger said he realized by assuming all costs for levee repair he may be lessening
