High winds … hail … and sudden torrential downpours may take a toll, according to the California Farm Bureau.

The storms came at a bad time for almond trees, which bloomed early this year. The wind and rain may have wreaked havoc with pollination. Farmers won’t know for several weeks. Last year’s almond crop was also weather-damaged.

The rain also soaked rice fields, which need to drain before the soil can be prepared for planting.  Water is unwelcome at this time of year. Planting will probably be delayed.
