The final environmental impact report on the proposed Dixon Downs project could come within the next week. Supporters say the $250 million facility would boost the local economy. But opponents disagree.

"It’s bad for Dixon, that’s the first thing that’s the matter with it, alright."

Gail Preston of Dixon Citizens for Quality Growth says the racetrack would create too much traffic and pollution.

"It’s inconsistent with our general plan, which is to maintain small town character."

Dixon Down is being proposed by Magna Entertainment which owns Golden Gate Fields in the Bay Area and the Santa Anita track in Southern California. Magna didn’t return our calls asking for comment.

Their plan includes an 1,800 seat open-air grandstand to be built off of Interstate 80, across the freeway from the old Milk Farm sign.
