Forecaster Holly Snell with the National Weather Service office in Sacramento says winter weather is back after some unseasonably warm temperatures.

"Yeah, just a couple days ago we had record high temperatures of 74 degrees and we’re expecting near or record lows."

A cold low pressure system coming down from Canada is causing overnight temperatures to dip into the lower 30s, which is unsafe for plants and animals.

"People should protect tender vegetation and maybe if you have pets that are outside, take them inside."

Daytime high temperatures this weekend are expected to be as much as 10 to 20 degrees lower than what they were last week.

The system could bring some light rain and snow to Northern California as well.
