Joie de Vivre hotels operates 29 properties, mostly in its home city, San Francisco … but the company would like to add one in Sacramento.
The site would be the former Cal Western Life building at 10th and J Streets, currently slated for renovation into office space. It could be a 200-room luxury boutique hotel. The downtown lacks a sizeable boutique property, which usually is more intimate than business hotels like the Sheraton Grand and the Hyatt Regency.
The Sacramento City Council will review the concept this month. All the major hotels downtown built in the past two decades have had city subsidies.
