Radio listeners in Republican Senator Abel Maldonado's central coast district are hearing this ad: “call senator Maldonado today….tell him his minimum wage scheme is a bad idea that will hurt California businesses and cut jobs…"

The radio spot is paid for by the California Republican Assembly.  The group’s President, Mike Spence, says the Senator’s bill – which calls for a dollar increase over two years- would force businesses to make a tough choice: “They either pass on the increases through higher prices, or they cut back on the kinds of workers they hire.”

Maldonado says the Governor asked him to carry the bill, and it’s a good compromise. “it’s disheartening to see my own party going out and running ads on a policy that I think is right for California.”

Maldonado’s bill does not include automatic future increases – something Democrats have insisted is a priority.
